Roseville police defend Flock cameras after report of misreads

The Sacramento Bee · August 4, 2026 · Roseville, California

Roseville PD confirmed 1,011 of 1,427 alerts (71%) involved a misread, but Lt. Nick Gaines said that share is alerts, not all ALPR scans. Flock called the 71% stat a mischaracterization that conflates felony alerts with overall accuracy.

Why it is in the file

Use this when you want to be bulletproof: acknowledge the denominator. The alert-error rate can still be the operational number that matters for stops.

It should be clarified that 71% is specific to misreads relative to alerts; it is not accurate to imply this number is indicative of misreads relative to all ALPR scans.
